South Area is pleased to bring you the 2023 South Area Pioneer Award Exploration Assessment (Intake 1) from 29th April to 30th April 2023. As part of the Pioneer Award requirements, Venture Scouts are to undergo an Exploration Assessment. During the test, they will be challenged both physically and mentally on their resilience and leadership qualities. In particular, they will be assessed on their navigation and recording skills.
This is a one-part assessment, consisting of a 2D1N Exploration.
Please refer to Annex A for details.
While preference will be given to Venture Scouts from South Area, Venture Scouts from other Areas may still register.
Venture Scouts Leaders are to register their Venture Scouts through the MSDS portal using the provided link http://intranet.scout.org.sg/ by 25th March 2023. Late applications will not be accepted.
Should you have any clarifications, please contact Mr Goh Kah Meng, Examiner at southareaexplorationteam@gmail.com.

All Venture Scouts are reminded that they are required to have 1 companion and preferably at least 1 reserve for the Assessment. Companions must be either a Venture Scout with a valid First Aid Certification or a Scout who has obtained at least their Discoverer Award and has a valid First Aid Certification.
All units with participating Venture Scouts for this Assessment are required to have at least 1 adult leader (a MOE teacher or VAL appointed by the Sponsoring Authority) present at the rest point overnight for safety and chaperoning purposes. This is to ensure the safety of both male and female participants. The Leader can assist the Examiner Team as a Facilitator (assist in administrative roles but not in deciding whether a candidate passes or fails). The candidate will not continue the assessment and will be deemed as ‘Disqualified’ if no chaperone is on-site at the rest point.
Female candidates must have a female chaperone. The onus is on the unit to provide one. The female candidate will not continue the assessment and will be deemed as ‘Disqualified’ if no female chaperone is on-site at the rest point.
