South Area is pleased to bring you the Venture Scout Global Positioning System (GPS) Exploration Course 1st and 2nd Intake on 15 Apr and 29 Apr 2023. The course is designed for Venture Scouts pursuing the exploration requirements for their Trekker Award and who have previous experience with exploration. To attend the course, the participants should have achieved the requirements of the “Outdoor Exploration / Expedition” components for the Venture Badge or similar requirements for the Scout Section.
The course will acquaint participants with the basic knowledge of GPS and their relationships to maps and exploration. In addition, participants will undergo practical open and closed terrain navigation sessions designed to install practical knowledge on how to apply and use a GPS in context.

- Practice Maps

Personal Equipment
- Stationary (pencil, colour pencil, colour pens, 360° protractor, mathematical set)
- Venture Scout Journal or Notebook
- Baseplate/lenstatic compass (1 per participant)
- Sun Protection (sleeves, cap and sunblock)
- Poncho (Hands should be free and not hold an umbrella)
- Sufficient Water (at least 1.5L)
- Backpack
- Waterproofing packs for gear
- Insect repellent
- Personal first aid kits
- 1:50,000 topographical maps of Singapore (1 map per 5 participants or less from the same unit)

Event fee: $10.80 inc. GST ($10.00 before GST)
There will be no refund of event fees once the invoice is issued for payment.

Priority will be given to Venture Scouts from the South Area

Rover Scouts or Venture Scout Leaders who are interested in assisting and learning from the course, can register via Adult Management > Adult Training Registration.
RAMS will be emailed to all the Venture Scout Leaders and participating Rover Scouts after the recce is done on 1 April 2023.
