VENTURING FOUNDATIONS COURSE – 5TH MARCH 2022

South Area had successfully conducted the Venturing Foundations Course on 5th March 2022 with 68 participants from 9 different units. The course was held online with participants attending different workshops covering items such as Introduction to Venturing, Scout Instructorship, completing a RAMs, and Leadership.

Our support staff who made the course happen

The ventures took part in a planning exercise where they were given a scenario and had to work out in their patrols to come up with a plan on how to react to the scenario. There were many good suggestions and ideas heard from our participants during the sharing stage which were then used for the different scenarios in the second part of the exercise. Our ventures then were given the task to apply what they had learnt to submit a proposal for an activity, carry out the activity, and submit a post activity report and reflection by 10th April 2022.

We hope the Ventures found the course useful and provided them the foundation needed to begin on their journey. We look forward to receiving your activity proposals and hearing what you have learnt as you carried out your planned activity!

17TH SCOUTS OF THE WORLD AWARD – DISCOVERY WORKSHOP (ONLINE)

Dear Unit Leaders,

17th Scouts of the World Award – Discovery Workshop (Online)

Greetings from the Singapore Scout Association (SSA)!

A flagship initiative under WOSM’s Better World Framework, the Scouts of the World Award (SWA) provides young people with opportunities to be engaged in addressing challenges of the future. It aims to empower and engage young people in taking actions of world importance, based on the universal values of freedom, tolerance, equality, respect for nature, and shared responsibilities – criteria also identified by the United Nations in their Sustainable Development Goals.

Using the experiential model of ExploreRespond and Take Action, the Discovery Workshop intends to expose young people to the issues we are facing, both in Singapore and globally. Apart from raising critical awareness on the challenges facing our communities and Singapore’s rich heritage, the workshop also seeks to equip and improve the skill sets of our young people in conducting a Needs Analysis, Project Planning and Development, and experience in Group Facilitation, in preparation for their Voluntary Service projects, which is the second component of the SWA.

For more information regarding SWA, please visit the following link: scout.betterworld.sg/flagship-initiatives/scouts-of-the-world-award/

CUB SCOUT LEADERSHIP COURSE (CSLC) 2022

Dear All,

CUB SCOUT LEADERSHIP COURSE (CSLC) 2022

Greeting from The Singapore Scout Association, South Area(SSA).

To follow up with the safe management measures put in place by Ministry of Education, CSLC will continue to be run via virtual means this year.

This year CSLC will be run in three phases and will cover topics such as, Leadership, Effective Communication, Ceremonies, First Aid, Conflict Management, and Teamwork. The breakdown of the phases are as stated:

Phase 1-  Compulsory 1 day workshop  (All teachers/leaders to attend only)

Phase 2- OJT for teachers/leaders to conduct CSLC (All teachers/leaders and eligible cubs)

Phase 3- OTOT unit activity for cubs to plan and teachers/leaders to access  (All)

The objective of the change in operation is for Cub Scout Leaders (CSLs) to run CSLC by their own with area supporting them. Therefore we have open multiple intakes throughout the year and leader can register their cubs for either intake depending on their suitable timing. However priority will be given to older cubs for Intake 1. To deem a successful completion of CSLC, teacher/leader need to submit unit activity proposal and reflection by cubs and leaders assessment to the area.
