WYNIST MASS COASTAL CLEANUP

WYNIST MASS COASTAL CLEANUP

Greetings from the Singapore Scout Association (SSA).

We are pleased to inform that the Singapore Sailing Federation is organising the WYNIST Mass Coastal Cleanup in celebration of SG57 and as part of the Singapore Regatta. The event will take place on 24th July 2022 along East Coast Park, where fleets of boats will sail past as part of the regatta route.  In support of the event, the Sea Scout RoundTable extends the invite to all members of the Association to participate in this cleanup.

Participation in the clean-up will allow members to understand the sources and impacts of marine trash and how they can play a part in the conservation of the marine environment. Through this experience, it is intended that Scouts will also be inspired to take on the Earth Tribe Initiative: Plastic Tide Turners.  Scouts who are keen to pursue the Plastic Tide Turner Challenge can approach their Area Representative (Better World) for more information.

Please refer to Annex A for further details.

You are encouraged to register your Scouts via MSDS’s Youth Programme Registration portal: http://intranet.scout.org.sg by Friday, 15th July 2022, 2359 hrs.  Kindly note that only accepted registrations will be duly notified.

Should you require any clarifications, please contact Ms Emily Ho, Executive (Programmes) via emily.ho@scout.org.sg or contact us at 6259 2858.

We look forward to your enthusiastic participation.

VENTURING FOUNDATIONS COURSE – 5TH MARCH 2022

South Area had successfully conducted the Venturing Foundations Course on 5th March 2022 with 68 participants from 9 different units. The course was held online with participants attending different workshops covering items such as Introduction to Venturing, Scout Instructorship, completing a RAMs, and Leadership.

Our support staff who made the course happen

The ventures took part in a planning exercise where they were given a scenario and had to work out in their patrols to come up with a plan on how to react to the scenario. There were many good suggestions and ideas heard from our participants during the sharing stage which were then used for the different scenarios in the second part of the exercise. Our ventures then were given the task to apply what they had learnt to submit a proposal for an activity, carry out the activity, and submit a post activity report and reflection by 10th April 2022.

We hope the Ventures found the course useful and provided them the foundation needed to begin on their journey. We look forward to receiving your activity proposals and hearing what you have learnt as you carried out your planned activity!

17TH SCOUTS OF THE WORLD AWARD – DISCOVERY WORKSHOP (ONLINE)

Dear Unit Leaders,

17th Scouts of the World Award – Discovery Workshop (Online)

Greetings from the Singapore Scout Association (SSA)!

A flagship initiative under WOSM’s Better World Framework, the Scouts of the World Award (SWA) provides young people with opportunities to be engaged in addressing challenges of the future. It aims to empower and engage young people in taking actions of world importance, based on the universal values of freedom, tolerance, equality, respect for nature, and shared responsibilities – criteria also identified by the United Nations in their Sustainable Development Goals.

Using the experiential model of ExploreRespond and Take Action, the Discovery Workshop intends to expose young people to the issues we are facing, both in Singapore and globally. Apart from raising critical awareness on the challenges facing our communities and Singapore’s rich heritage, the workshop also seeks to equip and improve the skill sets of our young people in conducting a Needs Analysis, Project Planning and Development, and experience in Group Facilitation, in preparation for their Voluntary Service projects, which is the second component of the SWA.

For more information regarding SWA, please visit the following link: scout.betterworld.sg/flagship-initiatives/scouts-of-the-world-award/

In view of the current COVID-19 situation and the relevant safe management regulations in place, the workshop will be conducted virtually this year. Participants are required to achieve full attendance for all the modules.

Please refer to Annex A for the details.

Registration is based on a first-come-first-served basis. Please register your Scouts through Scout Youth Programme Registration portal:
http://intranet.scout.org.sg by 05 March 2022Only accepted registrations will be duly notified.

Please email the BetterWorld Team at betterworld@scout.sg for assistance or clarification on programme enquiries or Mr William Tan, Executive at william.yulin@scout.org.sg, or call 69115795, for further assistance or clarification on registration enquiries.
